Thank You, Jeremy
Hey now! Jeremy Wright named this blog the winner of his Best New Blog contest! No freakin’ way!!
Jeremy writes a very popular blog, Ensight.org, and is writing a book on business blogging.
A few weeks ago he wrote that he was unsubscribing to blogs faster than
he was finding new, good ones, so he created a contest for his
readers. He invited anyone and everyone to submit their blog,
promised to give each one a read and, eventually, to give an iPod Shuffle to his favorite.
How cool is that? Here’s a guy with 250,000 visitors a month,
a book to write, and he’s willing to open himself up for a contest
like this. To me, this is why blogging is so cool right
now. The guys who are writing the books are passionate about the
medium and earnestly believe in the core principles of community,
individuality, honesty, and sharing. I’m honored just to have a
guy like Jeremy on my subscription roll.
For those of you coming by for the first time, thanks for stopping
in. I’m a software engineer in Colorado who does a fair amount of
creative writing in his spare time. I have a couple of
screenplays under my belt (who doesn’t these days?) and am currently
working on a short film that I hope to shoot later this year. My
buddy Chris and I are putting together essays for a book on sarcasm, although I should point out that we’re not get-a-publisher-first sell-outs like that Jeremy Wright loser.
As a wanna-be writer, blogging is a dream come true. Instead
of toiling away in my basement for weeks on projects that will
most likely never see the light of day, I can just slap the ol’
Publish button in my blogging tool and get feedback
instantaneously. I’ve had a total blast the last few months
playing around with form, structure, and content, although I’m learning
that I’m not nearly as capable of a writer as I originally thought, and
that “humor” writing is more demanding than poetry and music
combined. And I’ve learned that my love affair with the comma
will someday, surely, be the end of me.
I just got back into town and need to wrap this up and get to
work. But Jeremy, thank you so much. I deeply
appreciate your graciousness, and my lovehandles deeply appreciate the
iPod. (They are somewhat self-conscious about their weight.)
