The phrase is undeniably over-the-top.  I once worked with an older man named Lonnie who would continually use the phrase, "I'll kill," particularly with inanimate objects (but with co-workers as well).  "KILL YOU!" pleases me in the same way as Lonnie's version, both being made more severe (not to mention threatening!) by their Neanderthal omission of a (not so) key word.
